                                  . General Information

                                  Contact Numbers:
Please notify your child’s teacher of any changes in contact numbers, addresses etc. so that our database can be kept up-to-date.

                                  Supervision:
Supervision is provided in the front play areas from 8.35 a.m. each morning. Parents are asked not to drop children to the school before this time and not to enter the school building before the bell rings.

                                  Collection of Infant pupils:
Parents of infant pupils are asked to collect them from the exterior classroom door at home-time. Children will not be released to minders, neighbours etc without the prior written permission of parents.

                                  Road Safety:
The Board of Management and school staff are particularly concerned about pupil safety on the way to and from school. We ask that children cross Auburn Avenue and Castleknock Road only where the lollipop ladies are stationed.  Parents are asked not to park in the yellow boxes or on the yellow lines at the front of the school and in the car park and not to drive into the school play areas between 8.15a.m. and 4.00p.m.

Children who cycle to school are asked to walk their bicycles to and from the school gates.

                                  Administration of Medicines:
If a child has any special medical needs or health problems, it is vital that the class teacher and the school authorities are notified early in the school year.

We believe that medicines should only be administered in school when essential and cannot be given at alternative times. Medicines will not be stored or administered in school, without the prior written permission of the child’s parents or without the authorisation of the B.O.M.

Parents should keep pupils at home when they are unwell and children, who have been sick, should return to school only when they have fully recovered.

If your child has long term medical needs, it is essential that you read our policy and comply with its requirements.

                                  Pupils’ Absences:
A written note must be furnished in the event of your child being absent for any reason-special notices are provided in the centre pages of the child’s homework diary. For Infant Classes, a  note should be given to the class teacher on the  pupil’s return explaining the absence. Parents are reminded that under the     provisions of the Education Welfare Act (2000), school principals are obliged by law to notify the E.W.B. of pupils who miss 20 or more school days, for any reason.

                                  Rules of the School:
The rules of the school are printed in the school journal- they are regularly discussed at assembly
and in the classroom. Parents are requested to discuss these rules with their children.
Observation of these rules creates a safe and positive learning environment for all. Pupils are reminded to behave at all times in a manner considerate of the welfare of others.

We aim at providing education in a safe, caring and happy school climate. We ask you to talk
to your child regularly about school and to listen to their comments and anxieties. If your
child’s safety or happiness is threatened deliberately or persistently then the class teacher
or school principal should be advised promptly.

                                  Communication with home:

                                  School Newsletter:
A school newsletter is issued on a monthly basis and is given directly to the pupils. Please make sure that you receive your newsletter as it contains important information on the
school calendar and it details all the activities taking place in the school.

                                  Text messages:
Our school has now developed a text-messaging system to parents.

                                  School Website:
                                  The school web site,
www.saintbrigids.ie is another important source of information for parents.

Notices are posted around the school to remind parents of imminent events.

If you wish to inform the school of  important information or concerns, please contact the class teacher.  An appointment system ensures that classes are not left unsupervised —  so we ask that you  make an appointment in advance by contacting the school secretary.

Formal Parent Teacher Meetings will be held in November this year.

                                  School Uniform/Tracksuit:
Full school uniform must be worn at all times with the exceptions of designated P.E. days.
On P.E. days the school tracksuit is worn along with a white polo-shirt.

School shorts and polo shirt can be worn in September, October and after Easter.
Order forms for tracksuits, polo-shirts, school jumpers are available from the school office. Bulk orders are made periodically and notice of these days is given in the newsletter. The manufacturer will not accept individual orders.

                                  Health and hygiene:
Children are encouraged to bring a sensible nutritious lunch to school. Crisps, fizzy drinks, sweets, chocolate and chewing gum are not allowed in school.
Children are required to bring any lunch packaging, bottles etc home each day.

Children’s hair should be checked regularly for head-lice. Please notify your child’s class teacher in the event of any health/hygiene issues.

Girls who have longer hair are encouraged to tie it in a pony tail.

Due to some accidents last year, jewellery is not allowed in school.

Heelies are not allowed in school.

                                  Nut Free School:
Some of our pupils suffer from nut allergies and so it is vitally important that we do everything to ensure the St. Brigid’s is nut-free. Please ensure that your child does not bring food that contains nuts to school. We also welcome you support in convincing children that lunches should never be shared or swapped.

                                  Birthday Invitations & Cakes:
Parents are asked to ensure that birthday invitations are NEVER given out on the school grounds. Too often this has caused exclusion and hurt in the past. For the reasons outlined above, birthday cakes cannot be shared in school.

                                  Insurance:
24 hour insurance cover for your child can be arranged through the school if you wish. An insurance application will be given to each pupil in the next week.. If you require this cover please return this form and the relevant amount to your child’s teacher.

                                  Homework:
