                                  Healthy Eating Policy

                                  AIMS/ PURPOSES/ RATIONALE
                                  1. To encourage healthy eating.
                                  2. To improve dental hygiene
                                  3. To hep alleviate the litter problem in the school and encourage recycling.
                                  4. To encourage children to experience a wide variety of food.
                                  5. To help the children understand the link between a healthy diet and a healthy, active lifestyle.
                                  6. To educate children for living and for life.

                                  PROCEDURES/ GUIDELINES
                                  • The staff will encourage healthy eating and educate the children in Health Education.
                                  • Children will be encouraged to participate in Sporting Activities as part of the schools healthy eating/healthy lifestyle policy.
                                  • All food and drinks consumed in the school will follow the guidelines recommended in the food pyramid.
                                  • Food can only be eaten at: Break time and Lunch Time
                                  • Hands should be washed after eating if necessary.
                                  • No eating in the toilets.
                                  • Foods that can be composted will be put into special bins for composting.
                                  • Other litter from lunches will be taken home by the pupils.
                                  • Children will be allowed a treat (a chocolate coated biscuit, eg club milk, snack bar) on Fridays.
                                  • Children will be encouraged to recycle.
                                   

                                  THE FOLLOWING FOODS ARE RECOMMENDED:
                                  1. Fruit
                                  2. Sandwiches
                                  3. Milk
                                  4. Cheese
                                  5. Yoghurts
                                  6. Vegetables (carrot/celery sticks etc.)
                                   

                                  THE FOLLOWING FOODS ARE NOT ALLOWED:
                                  1. chewing gum
                                  2. lollipops
                                  3. crisps, chipsticks etc.
                                  4. Fizzy drinks
                                  5. Sweets, chocolates, biscuits
                                   

                                  RESOURCES/IMPLICATIONS

                                  *This policy will be circulated to all families in the school.

                                  *It is hoped that all parents will actively support this policy.

                                   

                                  MONITORING/EVALUATION/REVIEW

                                  A regular review of this policy will be carried out to assess its effectiveness.
